This book is suggested for fans of Practical Magic and/or The Gilmore Girls and whilst I don’t disagree, it has something else that makes it wholly its own. A blend across brilliant genres, it’s a gentle mix of magical realism, folklore, romance and destination. Comparisons to greats such as Alice Hoffman, Adrienne Young and Sarah Addison Allen can be off-putting, because what if it doesn’t live up to expectation? Trust me, it does. I’m not usually one to give a suggestion of so many comparable Authors because each book is its own, but it’s such a niche genre, this gentle magical realism one. So when you find a gem, you need to tell people about it.

Rachel Greenlaw has a haunting and lyrical writing style. She can paint a town, a mountain-scape, a romance and a drama. She can craft characters with depth without saying too much, and bring the desolation of a landscape to life with just a few short lines. She can transport a reader into the chapters of her books, just like that. And the magic? Just right. Books don’t need to be full of magic, to be magical. Rachel blends the magical realism and the fantasy elements into everyday life, so much so that they are just there and they exist, and that is plenty.

About the Book

There is an old tale that weaves through the mountain town of Woodsmoke.

It whispers of a stranger who appears as the snow falls, only to disappear in spring.

Leaving behind a broken heart…

Carrie Morgan expects trouble when she returns to Woodsmoke after ten years.

What she does not predict is the beautiful stranger who walks into her life with the first frost and with whom Carrie begins to fall in love.

Bound to her family’s book of spells and a deep magic that flows from the mountains, Carrie’s family warn that her new love is a curse who will disappear when the frost thaws.

If Carrie is to embrace the power a Morgan woman carries, she must trade something in return.

But is lifting a curse worth any price?
