It’s not a case of resisting reading Freida’s books, they just haven’t been on my radar, but after the hundredth ‘But what do you think of Freida McFadden’s writing…’ this bookseller had to give in! And I decided to give in by requesting Freida’s next book, The Coworker, out in August 2023, from NetGalley. My request was approved in minutes (sorry) and I got stuck in. And did not stop. Or sleep.

A host of characters written to play with the readers mind and emotions… are they guilty, are they a victim? The possibilities seem almost endless. I disliked most of them, and yet stayed up late to read about their lives. Very clever.

When that major twist was delivered it hit hard. So simple and yet not something I saw coming. And within a few pages – boom – another twist. And then… another. And… you guessed it. Freida McFadden is the queen of the twist but it doesn’t end with just one. And that’s what I liked most about this book.

This is the first book that I’ve read by Freida McFadden and it certainly won’t be the last. Described as easy thrillers, I would completely agree. They’re dark, twisted, but easy to get into and very easy to read in one sitting to find out what on earth is going on!

About the Book

Two women. An office filled with secrets. One terrible crime that can’t be taken back.

Dawn Schiff is strange.

At least, everyone thinks so at Vixed, the nutritional supplement company where Dawn works as an accountant. She never says the right thing. She has no friends. And she is always at her desk at precisely 8:45 a.m.

So when Dawn doesn’t show up to the office one morning, her coworker Natalie Farrell–beautiful, popular, top sales rep five years running–is surprised. Then she receives an unsettling, anonymous phone call that changes everything…

It turns out Dawn wasn’t just an awkward outsider–she was being targeted by someone close. And now Natalie is irrevocably tied to Dawn as she finds herself caught in a twisted game of cat and mouse that leaves her wondering: who’s the real victim?

But one thing is incredibly clear: somebody hated Dawn Schiff. Enough to kill.

The Coworker is a tense, unputdownable thriller from New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden that explores the dark ways the past can echo through the present–with deadly consequences.
