As we’ve experienced two weeks of temperatures above 30 degrees c… I decided it was a great time to delve into my Summer Reading List! My suggestions include sixteen books to read this Summer and other than those I had already read, this was the first on the list. Wow… what a book! I love books set in small island life, (okay no, I just love reading about Nantucket but South Carolina is a good substitute!) and this book did not disappoint. This is the first in the Beach House series and sets up the back story well, leaving the reader just about ready to dive into the second book once it ends.
Caretta Rutledge thought she’d left her Southern roots and troubled family far behind. But an unusual request from her mother coming just as her own life is spinning out of control has Cara heading back to the scenic Lowcountry of her childhood summers.
What was great about this book is that there was an underlying family story, fantastic characters, beautiful setting and scenery but also some brilliant educational pointers about turtles! So it had a bit of everything – strongly independent characters, creative date nights, community projects and more. Southern charm, Southern food and Southern morals – this book has a little of everything and is perfect for starting off your Summer reading this year.
