We were honoured to host Amanda Prowse’s publication week launch celebration for This One Life – amidst the coldest few days we’d had for ages, just as the snow was melting, it was the tonic of laughter and warmth that we all needed! Smiling in January? Unheard of! But we all did and it was true warmth and so welcoming after what had felt like a long December.

Once again the event was attended by a mixture of people, some who had come with friends or family, and some who had come alone. Everyone found someone to talk to and firm friendships were made. Amanda was interviewed on stage by her close friend, Penny Dommett, and co-host of the podcast Chit Chat and All That. The friendship radiating from the stage and the stories that they shared were incredible. We did not stop laughing!

Over 70 book-lovers joined us in The Fairground Hall for cream tea (scones, clotted cream and butter) cookies, and plenty of tea and coffee. We had an incredible team of volunteers (including us!) who kept teapots and coffee pots topped up and flowing.

We were treated to an extract reading – during which you could have heard a pin drop! No exaggeration. The room was completely silence as we listened to Amanda read out a passage from the book. An extra special treat as Amanda is the audiobook narrator for all of her books too. What a treat and we very much look forward to the next one!

This One Life by Amanda Prowse

She wants it all. But life has other plans…

After years of hard work, Madeleine’s life is very nearly perfect. She’s about to move to LA to pursue her dream job―and there’s a new man on the scene too. But when her mother falls ill, pulling her back to the world she’s tried so hard to leave behind, the repercussions of a life-changing decision Madeleine made seven years ago resurface, threatening to jeopardise everything she’s worked for.

Faced with the promise of her new life, and the pull of her old, she has to ask herself some tough questions: was what she did then right for her family? How do you know when it’s okay to put yourself first? And what’s the cost of happiness?

Heartfelt, provocative and emotional, this is a gripping look at the choices women have to make, and whether we really can have it all…
